Mother's Day is coming

I was just trying to think of a Mother's Day gift for my mom, and it got me thinking. What do you get for someone who carried you in their belly for 9 months, gave birth to you, and then gave up their whole life to raise you? Nothing quite seems enough.

I remember when I decided I was ready to have a baby. It was when I went to visit Tina and saw my neice Amanda for the first time. As I held that sweet little girl, I thought "I could do this"--I had no idea.

When Jordan was born, I couldn't believe what it did to me. One of my first thought was "I can't believe my Mom loved me this much." Another thought I had was "I will never be the same again"--I was right. Being a mom is incredible. It is something you can't really explain or understand until you experience it. I love my kids and I love being a mom AND I can't wait for Mother's Day :)

(I have no idea why my hair looks black--I swear I'm a blonde)

Is it just me or...

...does every Mother think her kids are the cutest kids in the world?! Here's proof that my kids are the cutest:

Better Hurry

So I bought these "limited edition" Oreos and they are SO GOOD. I am not the hugest fan of regular Oreos, but these--oh my gosh! Better run out and get them, before they are gone (like the "beefy cheesy melt" at Taco Bell--Tyson is so disappointed).

Disappointed

I have been looking for a new dresser for the kids' room for weeks now. On Saturday night, I looked on Craigslist and saw the exact dresser I wanted for really cheap (not to mention it came with a toy box and nightstand that matched). It was 10pm when I saw it, so instead of calling the guy, I sent him a quick email. I noticed that he had just posted the dresser 10 min. before I saw it, so I thought my chances of getting it were pretty good. Well I went to bed and when I woke up in the morning I had no email about it. I thought I would wait a bit to call (since I got up at 7:30am). When I went back to Craigslist to get the phone number, the post was GONE. I was SO SO SO disappointed. Who knows if I will ever find a dresser that great again :( I vowed I would NEVER let something that great get away again--whatever it takes. . . . grrrr.

My New Garden

I have a million things I should be doing right now, but instead I am procrastinating all of those things and blogging.
I bought a few new flowers for my garden this morning and I thought I would tell you about them. I finally pulled out all those enormouse crawling plants that take too much upkeep and bought three new rose bushes and four new flowering plants. They are going to look so beautiful once I actually get them in the ground (one of the things I am procrastinating).

Scared Scared Scared

Jordan has a birthday party on Saturday that is going to be at the roller skating rink. Jordan doesn't know how to skate and is scared to death to go to her best friend's birthday party. So we thought we would take the girls out to practice a little bit (they both have roller blades that people have given us). So yeah, they were more than a little scared. Kya was a little braver, but still it was frustrating. Thank goodnesss I didn't wear my blades too or it might have been disasterous (I have worn them in about 7 years). I think we'll need to practice a couple more times before the party.
*I sure hope they didn't get that "fear of trying something new" from me, but they probably DID!

Just Like the Bradys--not quite

So Mike and I each started a new book this weekend (Mike got some book with a dragon on it--as usual, and Kim lent me Twilight). So, since I am working on the talent show this week, I am not finding too much time during the day that I can feel good about sitting down with a book. Mike and I decided to go to bed a few minutes early (10 pm)to get some reading done. I guess we have never BOTH read in bed at the same time, because we ran into a problem. There is only one lamp in our room and it is beside Mike's side of the bed. When we turned off the lights and turned the lamp on, I couldn't see well enough to read. So we moved the lamp onto the bed--in between the two of us. It worked out fine until we touched it--that's right, it's a touch lamp. My elbow kept bumping it and the room would go pitch black. Not quite the best set up--I think it's time to invest in another lamp :)

While Tyson's Sleeping

It's amazing the things we get done while Tyson is napping. We love our little boy, but some things are just easier when he is "otherwise occupied". This was our attempt to make stepping stones. Each student in Jordan's class was asked to bring one to school to decorate their garden. I think I would pay a little more for the nicer kit with an actual mold to use for our shape, but ours turned out cute too. The girls don't know the difference and they had so much fun "designing" their own stone. We didn't get a picture of the one Jordan took to school, but maybe we'll take the camera to school one day.

Kindergarten Registration

This morning I took Kya to get her shots and registered her for Kindergarten. I can't believe she is old enough to go to school!! Almost everyday since this year started I want to snuggle Kya up and make time stand still. She is still my baby, still so small, still so innocent. Why does she have to grow up so fast?!

You're Going to Miss This

Recently I have decided to ENJOY the present more. It has really helped me see how blessed I am. Here's a new song that I love. It is SO TRUE.

Jill's Birthday Present

The girls really wanted to make a birthday present for their cousin Jill this year. Since I am not really very crafty, we decided to get some iron-ons and a shirt to make for her. I think it turned out cute. The girls had a a fun time making it too! Now I just have to get it in the mail.

Our Future Doctors

Last week I tought Kya's preschool. After a LONG discussion about Mexico (we are learning about different countries), I asked a few questions.
What language do they speak in Mexico?

Response #1: "China"

Response #2: "California"

Response #3: "Chinese"

I then explained AGAIN that in Mexico they speak Spanish.

How do you say "hello" in Spanish?

Response #1: "China"

Response #2: Kya held her hand up in the sign "I love you"

The kids then RElearned "hola".

My final question: Where do they speak Spanish AGAIN?

Response #1: "China"

I couldn't help but laugh.

Operation Clean the Sick House---UNSUCCESSFUL

(My messy living room)

Since I was laying on my death bed Monday and then on Tuesday Mike joined me, our house was a disaster. Yesterday I finally had enough energy to tackle some of the cleaning. I really surprised myself at how much I could actually accomplish while I was still pretty sick. I got the living room cleaned and vacuumed, the dishes all done and put away, the kid's room tidied, about five or six loads of laundry cleaned and folded and yes, I even managed to put new sheets and pillow cased on our bed. After all the cleaning, I kind of crashed. I was too tired to stand and make dinner, so Mike had to bring something home for us. Even though I bailed on making dinner, I felt pretty good about all that I was able to accomplish.

(My messy kitchen--I know, who takes a picture of their messy house and then posts it on the internet?? I guess I'm a crazy person or looking for sympathy.)

So now for the not-so-good part. At around 5pm Jordan started feeling sick. By 6pm she was in bed with a fever. At 8pm I took Kya up to bed. As I walked down the stairs, I heard water rushing and wondered what the heck was going on. Water was gushing out from under the bathroom door all over my carpet. I opened to door only to find about 4 inches of water covering the floor and spilling out into the hallway. Oh my gosh, how do two sick people clean up something like that?! What a nightmare. We scooped up as much water as we could, mopped the rest and then attempted to dry the carpet. So yeah, now I have ten loads of towels to wash and dry, the repair men have been here all afternoon and still haven't fixed the toilet (oh, did I mention it was our toilet that flooded the bathroom all on it's own, without anyone even using it), and my carpet is probably completely ruined (we'll see if it starts stinking in a few days).

What I thought was such a successful, productive day, turned out to be even more work than I could imagine.

*Okay, the repair men just left (6:15pm). They put in a new toilet and brought us a big blower to help dry our carpet.

Health = Happiness

There's nothing like a good old nasty illness to remind you what a blessing it is to have good health. We have spent the last few days enduring fevers, chills, coughs, runny noses, massive headaches, sinus pain...I swear the fever/chills are the worst--not to mention what the kid's do to the house while Mike and I are in bed all day. Tyson smeared butter all over my kitchen, dumped juice all over the couch, spilled a water bottle in the kids' room, and emptied out a few picture frames. I am still not feeling too well, but I think we are all over the worst of it--I hope.

It's A Good Day!

Why is it a good day you ask, well because...

...Mike is home.

...I finally got back to the gym.

...The New Kids on the Block are officially back together!

...the new Michael's near our house is open.

...Tyson fell asleep on the way home from the gym, so I can actually get something done.

...the sun is shining.

...it's Friday :)

My Lists

Okay, so here are my favorite shows and movies lists...for now. It's hard to think of all the stuff you've ever watched without forgetting some great ones. This is what I came up with:

Top 5 Favorite TV Shows

The Young and the Restless-What can I say? After watching this show for over twelve years, I feel like I "know" these characters. I know the acting isn't always the best and the story lines can get really out of hand, but oh is it interesting.

Family Ties-The theme song to this show just about brings me to tears. Great stories, funny, and great actors. I wanted to look like Malory and marry Alex.

Friends-Gosh, what a funny show, sometimes a little inappropriate, but almost always hilarious. I was so sad when it ended.

21 Jump Street-My love for Johnny Depp wasn't the only reason I was in love with this show. It was interesting, exciting, funny not to mention it had the HOTTEST guy on television in it (and it was filmed in Vancouver). Hmm, I think I need to watch it.

Lost-Frustrating, Creepy, Confusing, and just awsome. This show really keeps you thinking and majorly captivated--LOVE this show--I wish it was on every day.

Top 5 Favorite Movies

Anne of Green Gables-enough said on previous post. Gotta love that Gil.

Castaway-This movie really pulls at my heart strings. Amazing. It makes me think about life and how much I love my family.

Clueless-This movie is just funny. It it totally rewatchable and cuter than cute.

The Sound of Music-All but the last 30 minutes are amazing ( I don't know what it is about the ending, but it just drags a little). Great music.

It's a Wonderful Life-I know it's a Christmas movie, but what a great message. It makes me
cry just about every time.

The Greatest Movies

Mike's out of town and I haven't been blogging for two weeks, so don't be surprised to see more than one a day!!

Whenever I drive to and from Canada, the scenery reminds me of one of my favorite movies of all time--Anne of Green Gables. I absolutely LOVE this movie. I love the story, actors, scenery--I love everything about it. I should watch it while Mike is out of town since it is one of those movies that he just doesn't appreciate.

Now I am on a mission to figure out my top 5 movies of all time. What are your favorite movies?? Oh, and favorite tv shows too--right now my favorite is Lost, but of all time, I'll have to think about that one. I will post lists when I come up with them...

Brandon Saves The Day

Most of us would love to have hair as beautiful as Jordan's, but it can't be all good right? Jordan came home from school today and said "Brandon saved the day". I guess she had a dead fly in her hair and all the girls were too grossed out to touch it, so--Brandon saved the day! What would we do without boys?
