It started off great.
We went to Rancho Oso, which is a quiet little ranch just north of Santa Barbara. We rented a little cabin (with a/c because it was so darn hot). We all had fun playing mini gold, tennis, hiking, swimming, feeding chickens, and the kids even got to ride horses. The perfect little family getaway.
We headed home Sunday afternoon.
About 15 minutes after we started driving, the Jeep started losing power and before we knew it, we were pulled off the side of the road waiting for a tow truck!! We had our car towed to Santa Barbara where the driver was nice enough to drive us to the closest hotel.
(our bizarre rental car)
I am very grateful to have an even tempered husband who takes things in stride. If I had been dealing with this on my own, I would have been crying and moaning about how horrible the whole thing was. Instead, Mike let me enjoy swimming at the hotel with the kids while he dealt with all the drama (and even helped me laugh about the whole thing).
Even after all the ordeal of the car trouble. I can say it was a great little vacation. We will definitely do it again...hopefully without the extra day and broken car though:)

That is what happened on one of our trips. We blew the head gasket...they would have to replace the whole engine for like 3000 bucks and the car was worth that much in good condition and only 400 in the condition it was in. So we cut our losses and bought a new car. Good luck!
We had a similar experience in a bad part of Hawaii...at night...because Damon left the electronic keys in his pocket when he went body surfing. Luckily he has a cop for a sister...and she got us help 2 hours sooner than anticipated!
Glad you guys are ok!
What a hilarious rental! It is going to be such a great memory for your kids to talk about though! I hope the car situation gets worked out soon!!
I am with you. Without a laid-back husband, I would be a mess. I'm glad he was with you. Your kids will think that it was awesome when they are telling their friends about it in 10 years.
Your family getaway looked like a lot of fun, even with the unexpected adventure (it's too bad about all the extra expense, though). Your Jeep must have so many miles on it--with all the trips you've done to Canada, as well as these smaller excursions. I hope things get worked out soon!
That place looks so cool! I want to go there! What a fun getaway. The unexpected car troubles are not good, hope you figure it out soon! I still vote for another baby, but these are the times you are just glad all your kids are big, potty trained, and able to deal with the unexpected :)
