She's Old But She's NOT

I have never thought of 31 as being old, but lately I've been feeling exactly that--OLD. The more I think about it, the more I realize; in some ways I am old and in some ways I'm just NOT.

I'm OLD

When we first moved to LA and went to our new ward, I remember thinking "this is great, there are a lot of young couples in our ward to be friends with." It wasn't until a few hours later that I realized--those young couples could be 10 years younger than us!!!

I have an achey hip, my shoulders make grinding noises when I rotate them, it takes me all day to recover from an hour long work out, if I go to bed later than 11pm I'm cranky in the morning, I look like Nick Nolte when I wake up, and I cannot for the life of me get rid of these extra pounds (seriously, when I was 20 all I had to do was eat one less chip and I would lose a few pounds)!

I talk to my kids about before microwaves, before computers, before the internet, before DVDs and CDs. I remember songs and styles and shows from the 80s.

I'm NOT Old

Recently a few people have told me I look YOUNG! One of Kya's friends mom went so far as to guess my age and she said (23!!). That made me feel good. Check out ladies (isnt' that what they are called?) at the grocery stores always tell me I look too young to have 3 kids:)

I seriously can't wait for the new Hannah Montana movie to come out...AND the new Zac Effron movie too (you think I'm kidding, but I'm NOT). I also love HSM and most of the shows/music that my kids like. See, that makes me young right?

I can still paint my own toe nails, keep up with my step classes and take care of my three kids.

I pick my books from the young adult section of the book store (that's gotta count for something).

So, although most days I really do feel OLD, I think I've still got a LONG way to go (at least I hope I do). At least I know I still have A LOT to learn:)

You say you are older than most of the couples when you are not. I am like one of the youngest and you are only 5 years older. That is not a lot!!! And yes, you do look younger than you are so that totally counts for something!!!

You made me smile.
I feel the same way!
Hey, maybe we will take you up on lunch Sunday, if that's still okay.
We are going to roll into town around noon. I am so excited to see you!
I still remember you the way we were when we WERE young! :)

I agree that you've got too many young traits for anyone to see you as old! And being the youngest in our family, you'll always have a few people who see you as their little sister (or the baby--is that worse than being old?) :)

Well, Anita, if you are old, what does that make us? I was thinking the other day that your dad will be 64 this year, that is only 6 years away from 70, OH MY!!(and I'm not far behind) How time flies, but to us you are all still young:o)

I totally know what you mean about not being a "cute young couple" anymore. I realized the other day -- I have FOUR kids almost. Pretty soon I'll be "middle aged." And don't even get me started on the hips. I can barely sleep at night because of my dang hips. About 5 am I just start sleeping sitting up.

You do look super young though!
