My Church History Lesson
I was looking for a book to read and thought..."why not a church book?" So, I found this short book that Mike had received as a gift after his baptism called "The Mormon Church, A Basic History." Boy, did it give me a different perspective on the early days of the church. It totally sparked an interest to learn more...and showed me how little I actually know about church history. I really should know more.

I totally recommend Joseph Smith: Rough Stone Rolling by Richard Bushman. I bought it two years ago and finally read it early this year. It is long but it is book you can go and come from easily. It not only gives you the whole story of Joseph's life but it also includes a historical/cultural prospective. At least to me, I found this made the story of his life even more interesting.
You've read the Work and the Glory series, right? I've been reading them again recently (I haven't read the series since I was a teenager, so I forgot most of it). Even though it's historical fiction, I've learned a ton. Also Fire of the Covenant by Gerald Lund is one of my favorite books. It's about the handcart companies and even though the story is sad, it is SUCH a good book!
